Live and die on this day

It's pretty obvious walking into any gun shop or store that carries ammunition, look at the bare shelves and see a whole lot of nothing. The main stream media is hardly reporting on this, or the fact that just about every existing "Evil" gun on the shelves has been snatched up, even at prices two to three times what they cost just over two months ago.

The media that is reporting usually cites fear of them being banned due to impending legislation. I'll agree that some are buying because they fear changes in the law and just want to buy up the ammo for it "while they can"

I have no mathematical figure or know of such a study for just how many are doing this only for that purpose. I'd guess that the number is quite low compared to how many are buying in preparation for a fight.

I'm coming out of the closet and saying what many are afraid to say, No I'm not buying tons of ammo because I fear impending bans and taxation hikes on ammo. I've observed our nation falling apart faster than a meth head with leprosy. I'm preparing for battle.

Reversal of the entitlements and handout mentality seems impossible. Freedoms are being taken away little by little, there is a camera on nearly every corner in larger cities so big brother can "keep you safe"

Last Saturday was one of the best times I've had in quite some time, Met a bunch of new people. Some of them I knew already from online, others I'd only heard of before. The first annual NorthCoast blogger shoot was a blast to say the least! Thank you Breda, Heath, and Amanda for putting on such a great event. Thank you to everyone else for attending and making things so very interesting.

I'm only going to post one photo from it at this time as everyone else has covered that quite well... mostly because I've been a lame duck waiting a whole week to actually blog about it.

I filled out my third one today after walking in my favorite funshop, pointing at what I wanted, waited for the "proceed" and promptly paid for both the firearm as well as a box of Sellier & Bellot 92Gr. FMJ .380

We thanked each other, I headed out to my truck, opened the box, loaded the gun and placed it in my center console. What firearm did I purchase you ask?

Hey lookie there, I actually blogged! Bonus, I'll have another post in a while pertaining to a new purchase. :D

Local area crime on the rise.

A student of UT was murdered this past weekend just off campus after telling the scumbag he didn't have change or cigarettes for him. The area where this happened is covered with security cameras, and "emergency call boxes" for students to use in such a matter. We should all know by now that no matter what, Protecting yourself by means of being armed is far better than relying on over-worked & understaffed police forces.

Just yesterday an officer attempted to pull over a suspicious vehicle. One of the passengers decided that shooting at the officer was a smart move. all four passengers of that vehicle are now in custody.

It's starting to look like Toledo is the new Detroit/Chicago when it comes to arson. The lady in the video is a friend & neighbor of mine, she's a great ally in getting to know local .gov officials and local officers.

PS: My other half keeps getting mad at me for stocking up on ammo... *sigh*

Prep thyself!

Times are tough, When more and more houses set empty, arsons and robberies go up. Every time I leave my home and know that no one else is there, I'm nagged by the feeling today just might be the day some desperate loser gets the itch to see what we have the he "needs" My only hope is that I'll be as lucky as this guy and return back home before he/she is gone. You ever feel that way? Or do you feel your neighborhood is plenty safe?

Not very long after I bought this house and was working steady on renovations, I made a run to the local hardware store less than half a mile from here and was back within fifteen minutes, Upon my return a young neighbor kid approached me to warn that someone from across the street had walked up to my home and had themselves a peek through my windows.

That pissed me off! I thanked her for the info and stopped all my work for the day. Which lead to me sitting on my enclosed porch (which at the time had our huge bathtub temporarily placed there till we could carry it upstairs...) laying out a piece of plywood on top of the tub for a makeshift table I got out my AR15, fully stripped it down and cleaned every "nook & cranny". Then after I was done with that the Mossy 500 was next. And when that was done with that I loaded them both back up and sat out there a while drinking a soda & smoking a couple cigarettes.

I'm not sure if that did it or We're just lucky, but so far not one shady fuckwit has messed with our stuff.

Toledo is filled with "WTF?"

Not too long ago A woman assaulted a McDonalds employee because she couldn't get her McNuggets. And today you've got a guy who stabbed his own mother over a cheeseburger.

Tomorrow will be a shooting over someones fries being dumped over in the bag rather than staying in the container?

In my continuing mini series of local crime and the increase of home/property owners defending themselves from criminals is a update on the story of Sedric Joplin who wasn't indicted for his shooting of one man and the justified killing of another who broke into his home on Feb. 20th. of this year. Plus they finally found the third man involved in the robbery, He along with the gunshot survivor Michael Brown, Jr. will be charged with the murder of their accomplice Christopher Childress.

"Mr. Childress' family members have been outspoken about the charges, saying that they were disappointed in the grand jury's decision. Mr. Childress' mother, Jenny, said after Mr. Brown's indictment that she was upset that the "man who pulled the trigger" was not the one charged with the crime."

Well see the way this works Jenny is that Ohio has a castle law in effect. Your son chose to break a law by illegally entering a persons home, with the intent to steal. Sedric has every right to protect his property. Just as you have every right to spout off your ignorant mouth.

Snared.

A family owned grocery store was broken into after hours, ATM latched onto with a chain and dragged to the parking lot where the would be robber discovered that he was no match for an ATM. Dumb ass! This took place in Maumee, A rather decent area, Which makes me laugh because of an overheard conversation sometime last year while in a store my other half and I heard an uppity chick telling her friend that she should move to Maumee because there is no crime. Ha!

And if you remember my two previous posts I discussed a robber/rapist on the loose. Sadly he wasn't killed, he was caught however.

And lastly, The biggest issue on everyone's mind is Obamacare. Besides having to deal with some very tough family issues I we have to worry even more about the future because most of our senators and representatives are choosing to ignore us screaming in their ears to vote no on this trillion dollar bill. I am glad however that even though I live in a libertard city there are plenty of people who feel the same way we do about Pelosi & company.

On my way to work tonight at a very busy intersection was approximately 75 people holding signs saying "kill the bill" etc. Also spotted was at least one Gadsden flag, Best part of all, While sitting at the light I heard numerous people honking their horns in support of them, Myself included.

If they're still there tomorrow I'll get a picture, and maybe stop and talk to a few of them!

Growing trends

All over the US there has been a surge of people buying their first firearm for personal protection, As well as getting the proper education to know how to handle them. I'm seeing Toledo crime going up, while at the same time many of these crimes are being thwarted by legally armed citizens, many of them small business owners who would rather make the small investment of a handgun (and training) than have to fork over all their cash as well having peace of mind.

In my previous entry I discussed a robber/rapist on the loose and a store owner defending his shop from robbery by seriously wounding a would be robber.

Unfortunately I'm not writing today to tell you they caught the robber/rapist, or that he's been killed. He has been identified and a warrant is out for his arrest. Today's news is another bad situation turned good by yet another carrying member of society. This time a guy tried to rob a convenience store and ended up dead. they have yet to identify him. Either he was shot in the face, or times are so bad that more people are turning to crime and he's not in the system already.

Whatever the reason, crime is wrong and I'm very happy to see our law abiding community slowly letting these low life losers know that we're not going to give up without a fight!

Toledo Scum.

Toledo, just like many other places is being hit with much more crime since the economy has gone to shit. We've got a backseat robber/rapist on the loose. Luckily they have identified who it is and have a much better picture of him than previously (store surveillance video) seen. I really hope he tries to rob someone who has their carry permit and that he ends up dead, rather than tying up our courts, and jail cells, eventually getting out and going right back to his old ways. If I see him on the street... Ugh people like that sicken me.

Here's some better news, another private citizen with their CCW has shot and seriously injured a would be robber at him and his brother's music store just yesterday. Allied Music in South Toledo is in a fairly decent neighborhood. But that doesn't stop the stupid people from entering it, just like how we all know that "no guns" signs doesn't keep a would be criminal from carrying into any location that has one.

Avoidable.

Actually the guy fully meant to fire his weapon... he just didn't know that his muzzleloader had anything in it other than the percussion cap. Which makes him unsafe with firearms. Dwain Haggard of Montana, A superintendent was showing a class of students his gun when he placed a cap on it and aimed it and pulled the trigger, expecting only a pop of the cap igniting. He and the class got a loud bang and a hole in the wall.

No one was injured and because he's not from a nanny state it looks like he'll just go from this with experience (Hopefully of learning to check, double check and even triple check to make sure a firearm is not loaded before dry firing, Or in a presentation such as his) and the shame of having made an honest, yet fully avoidable "Oops"

I'd like to know what was loaded in his gun, and if it was from him, a student playing a trick, or possibly his own children if he has any. Best bet is that the last time he used it he loaded it and never put on a cap to fire, maybe he was target shooting and got rained out, forgot it was loaded.

All in all there is no excuse for this accidental discharge. checking and obeying the four rules of gun safety.

Criminals beware.

Just the other night less than five miles from where I live there was a break in at a mans home, Sedric A. Joplin was not home at the moment of the unlawful entry, But the criminals were still inside when he returned home. He fired at them and killed one, possibly hitting another loser as well.

Christopher Childress the loser who was rightfully shot in my honest opinion, is painted under a different light by his friends and family, They talk about him as if he was a good citizen and would never do such a thing, but the evidence shows that he broke in, And Ohio has a Castle Law in effect.

Now for the twist to the story I just discovered while writing this. It seems Mr. Joplin isn't so innocent himself, He had marijuana in his home. And this guys reported as an officer of the law... sort of, He's a correctional officer at a local prison.

Plus a second bad guy was caught. Michael Lee Brown is in custody. A third guy is still on the loose, I'm sure Michael Brown will rat him out in no time :)

I suppose the only good that comes of this story is a bad guy is dead, Guns still save lives and despite his unlawful drug activities Mr. Joplin was justified in shooting these guys. We'll see what happens with Sedric and his drugs.

Assumption is the mother...

And making assumptions can be very bad. most people consider .22 long rifle ammo to be the best choice for cheap plinking, And I agree. But what other uses does it get? Some minor varmint hunting, usually used to finish off a trapped coon or possum. And never suggested for home defense or self defense in general. I'd still say that is a good piece of advice, but just how much of a punch can those little .22lr rounds pack? Because most people would assume that those little rounds of ammo won't cause any harm to much more than a small varmint...

Well I decided to do a little testing. Rifle used was a model 67 Winchester single shot with 28" barrel
Ammo Winchester 37g JHP "super speed"
Distance 10 yards
Target - steel sheet (.042") backed up by aluminum plate (.2")



I set the steel sheet and the aluminum plate up with a C clamp holding both to either side of a 1/4" thick steel plate so there was a 1/4" gap between the steel and aluminum, Steel was the first target in line.

And here it the results. The bigger hole is from the .22 to the right of it is a hole from a .223 (not related to this test, I aimed near it for a comparison.)

The bullet actually wedged itself into the aluminum divot ( I could not remove it, even with high heat and trying to scrape it out)

The other side of the aluminum, it bulged out almost 1/4" and it made over a 2 inch diameter circle for the total area bulged out.


Shooting stuff is fun, And I'm going to pick up more of this ammo!

You already know what happened, and have read plenty on it. I'm not going to go into my own thoughts or anything else other than to share the screen shot (unedited) of his manifesto webpage which was taken down, but not before myself and countless others saved it. Crime happens...

The only ways to prevent it are first and foremost not becoming a victim, Which means arming thyself or at the very least taking classes on self defense, in which case you're still "arming" yourself in a sense. The next but least reliable source of preventing and stopping crime or being a victim of a crime is to count on others including the police to save you.

Sadly you cannot count on either, the police response time is almost always going to be too late, and civilians generally are too busy filming your situation on their cellphone camera to give a shit. So we the wise people arm ourselves, not only with firearms, but pepper spray, knives and the knowledge that almost anything can be used as a weapon.

Here is a sad story that you've head a hundred times already, yet it keeps happening... I had a former coworker who worked a second job as a pizza delivery guy, he got robbed the same exact way. Delivery at a house that turned out to be vacant, Luckily he was not shot or harmed otherwise. This young lady was not so lucky.

I've seen some pizza companies double up people for night time deliveries, especially to crappy neighborhoods. I've seem to remember a story a while back of a pizza delivery guy who was fired for defending himself with a firearm. You know what I always say?

Better to be judged by twelve than carried by six!
